About

Who created the Occupancy Tracker and why.

Hi, I'm Ryan

Kristy and Samm took me climbing a couple times at the end of 2018, and soon thereafter I signed up for the then 6-week course, Intro to Climbing, at Upper Limits downtown St. Louis.

I met Kathryn and Sophie in that class, and it was immediately clear that they were the most passionate classmates, so at the end of the course, we exchanged digits.

We all signed up for a yearly membership during the annual membership sale and have been climbing together ever since.

Climbing appeals to me because it's both physical and mental, I can improve entirely at my own pace, and everyone I've met on this journey has been friendly, supportive, and full of tidbits.

Flash forward to today, I haven't been climbing since COVID-19 hit the fan, which was over 6 months ago, and it dawned on me how much I miss it, so I decided it was time to get back to a new normal.

Over the last week I found myself refreshing the occupancy counter on Upper Limits' website, frequently toggling between locations, wondering which day and time would be the least crowded.

Being a developer who's always up for a challenge, I quickly realized that there's only one way I can semi-accurately answer this question, and you're looking at it.

Welcome to the Occupancy Tracker that shows the current number of climbers, and the average number of climbers per hour per day the gym is open, calculated over the last 30 days.

* Once I actually have 30 days of data. 😂
